Do you know how ot set wireless?

ok, so i'm running the dell 1390 card with ndiswrapper on 6.10. i followed a guide and can scan and connect to wireless networks to get an ip address. but that's all i can do. once i disconnect the ethernet cord, nothing works. in 6.06, i had to actually disable eth0 to get wlan to work. in 6.10, it doesn't seem to matter what i do, i can't get the computer to try to connect through the wireless. -Q anybody got any ideas?
