I believe so. In Kerala and Karnataka, when someone harms elephant, it remembers him even after 10 or 15 years, if it comes across him, instantly attack him/kill him.

These elephants in Kerala and in Karnataka have killed many MAHUTS (one who trains elephants) because these guys must have tortured the elephants. The killing must have taken place after 3 or 4 years.
