Sleep paralysis, night terrors, seeing things.

Very often, when I am just waking up, I see things in front of me that aren't there, like huge insects hanging from the ceiling and dark objects moving in the room. Because I'm still half-asleep, I tend to panic and jump out of bed in terror. Then I look again and realize that (obviously) there's nothing there. Then I feel silly and laugh. But the experience is a bit disturbing. Do you have any similar experiences to mine or suffer from sleep paralysis, night terrors or other strange sleep-related phenomena?

I haven't ever had visions of things like you've mentioned, but my husband has. For years, he saw the same image: 'the lady with the big eyes'. He said she looked Native American. A few times, he even woke me up, whispering, "Look, look, there she is." I guess she came to visit for his eyes only. Once I had sleep paralysis, and it scared the living crap out of me. Not only did I feel the pressure on my chest (which left me out of breath), but also when I woke up, I had the most eerie feeling of evil all around me. Sure hope that never happens again:o

Does your grandmother, by any chance, have a cat? Sorry, I couldn't resist!

Haha! She did had a couple of cats at some point, but I'm not sure if she had any when this was happening to her. But it's a possible explanation ;)

Um, so your husband actually sees something that detailed? I think most people just "sense" something or see a dark shape of some kind? (My grandmother told me she bit the "thing" on her chest and that it was furry, but she couldn't actually see it. And the "thing" only appeared when she was sleeping alone.) The feeling of "evil" is interesting, because nearly everybody with sleep paralysis experiences this. I wonder why that happens?

I often wake up in a panic, sometimes when I am dozing off I see inanimate objects move a little bit and it makes me wake up again. My 7 year old has night terrors and wakes screaming unable to get back to sleep

I made this topic so long ago! I thought maybe I was the only one hehe Does your kid feel like something's sitting on his/her chest? My grandmother did, but she actually thought it was a demon!

Oh, do you usually see them when you're almost asleep? I usually experience this when I'm waking up, though on a couple of occasions, I was fast asleep and just woke up for some reason. One time it was really amusing, I was so spooked that I jumped out of bed and landed on the floor :D My poor back!
