Bridezillas! Know one? Been one?

For those of you who aren't familiar with the term, a bridezilla is one of those brides-to-be who, unfortunately, becomes obsessed with the absolute perfection of "HER DAY" to the exclusion of all else -- seemingly forgetting that she is not the first, nor will she be the last, person to get married. The bridezilla can be mean, callous or otherwise uncaring towards her friends, family and the unfortunate service people and vendors that she leaves in her wake. They must assimilate or be destroyed. Her groom-to-be can potentially be found cowering under a mound of 34975987347 samples of invitations and reply cards from which he is expected to choose ONE... and that ONE better be the same one that she wants or all hell is guaranteed to break loose. Any of this sound familiar? LOL Please share your stories?

I love that show! and I'm very happy to say I am not one of them. I want to have a nice wedding, but I don't look for the "perfect" invite or perfect anything, as long as I look good, and we all have fun, who cares about the details? Anyway, I had a friend who was pretty obsessed. Not to the point of being MEAN, but instead to the point of being very OCD. We had to flip through all sorts of invite samples, just in case there was one better than the one she liked. We shopped for wedding dresses for the longest time! I found my dress in 2 shopping trips (found it in the first trip, but was forced to go to more stores "just in case" even though I liked the first dress from the first store!) We did benefit from this however, as we got to try every cake possible :-D Yum! And now that it's my turn to get married, I learned a lot about all the choices for every detail so I can use that to make my decision. So I guess it helped my friend was obsessive b/c it means I don't have to think as much :) But at the time I thought I was gonna go nuts!

I was laughing when I saw that show! I used to work in an online community, many years back, where one element involved weddings. I couldn't believe some of what I saw there... the attitudes, the fighting, the competition. It was truly frightening LOL It sounds like you benefited by your friend's approach to wedding planning :) It's great that it's helping you to keep things in perspective for your own. It should be a fun time and not one that involves so many arguments and tears! You sound like you have a really good handle on things. That's terrific! :) At least you'll still be on speaking terms with your wedding party AFTER the wedding... and not everyone can say that anymore!
