Why does a cat kneed on you? I will only be rating each reply. Thank you.

big cat! - cat!
Dear i need comment from you! Why you're starting topics but no comments here dear? The kneeding nature of cats may be a habit in nature which makes them cute and its a comfort thing to cats. But, kittens kneed their mother to release milk when they were babies. By doing so, they are trying to go back to their childhood/kitten hood and thats the only thing which they did when they were feeding from their mom. Moreover cats also feel good on their paws, as they feel kneed as a good excise.

I've always heard the same thing as the first answer, they knead to start the milk flowing when they were nursing. Just a natural instinct carried on into their adult years. Sucks when they have their claws though lol :)

When they kneed like that, it shows that they are happy and secure.

forest cat - this is alot like the kitty my Ozzie is. He has a bit more black due to the tuxedo cat influence.
It is a basic response to a happier time back when the momma nursed them. They now express happiness by kneading, they have been known to do it while sleeping. My Ozzie is a large cat and his love hurts! We try to teach our cats from young that we are no match for their claws and most of the time they are good.
