I LOVE tortoises! I grew up in South Africa and we had quite a few tortoises as pets. Generally ones that had got lost in residential areas - people would bring them to us to look after. They had the run of our garden, and ate the garden plants as well as food that we would give them - salads, and dried cuttlefish (like pet brids have sometimes) and grated chalk for extra calcium. Generally they were quite shy when we first got them, but they became tame quite quickly really, and some were big characters! The biggest character was a male called Torty who used to race around the garden making loud squeaking noises! You could hear him from inside the house! We had a female called Tortina who was very gentle and tame - she used to love us hand-feeding her, and would come up to us whenever we went out into the garden. Our tortoises were quite 'young' for tortoises though - the oldest was about 30 years old - and small to medium sized. Wonderful creatures!

Oh wonderful.
Where did you shelter Tortina ? In a pond full of water or an
artificial lake or swimming pool ?
I did not had hopes to receive a full length response like
this. I am really happy, my friend.

Thanks Hariharbhat! It was a pleasure responding! I've found a photo of us feeding Torty, so will add it underneath. Tortoises are actually 'land' creatures, although we did leave a shallow bowl of water for them to drink from if they needed to. Turtles are the 'relations' that live in water. :)

I'm sorry - I think maybe my rating is not high enough yet to add a photo? :(
