restoring old boats

Hi all I am looking a buying an old steel power yacht. However it is in some need of restoration work, both inside and out. I have some knowledge of building and engineering so consider most jobs to be accomplished by my own labour. The main stumbling point being what are the major differences in land and marine jobs? Any and all information will be greatfully recieved. And as a word I do not have any time scale to work to.
