Customer service in US...you are the King!

I've been to several places world over and haven't found customer service that is as prompt and efficient as in the US. Of course there may be a few occasional exceptions, after all to err is human, and so does the customer care guy! I would like to share one such "satisfied customer" experience. I had bought a satin pyjama set at Target in the beginning of December. It was on sale and bought the size I thought was correct. But unfortunately it was too big for me and I hadn't tried it on till last week. Since it could be exchanged I began looking for the receipt. As my bad luck would have it I could find all the other receipts except for the one I was looking for. (Funny how often this happens!)I folded the pyjama set the same way it was before as best as I could. We took our chances and went in for the exchange. My hubby had payed for it with his debit card and so from his online statements was able to determine the date we made the purchase. So last night we went into Target and told the customer care guy that we didn't have the receipt and we needed a smaller size on the same item. He told us that he could look up the receipt if we could tell him if we paid through card or cash. Since it was through a card, within seconds he brought up the receipt and without further questions he paid us the money. I was so pleased. This was my first such experience and I have noticed no questions are asked and customers are treated well no matter what kind of service you seek. I know this definitely doesn't happen in the country where I come from. They talk about the "Customer being a King", but is never followed. Have you had any such similar experiences? Or has customer service always been bad at your end?

This is common practice among the bigger companies. The smaller ones, not so much. Sears, Wal-Mart, Target etc. they all take very good care of their customers. Don't forget the $millions spent on training these reps. Also do remember that everything is documented so if you make returning items a habit, you can find yourself on their 'not so good a customer' list.

The customer service here in the states has been good and bad as people have had plenty of both worlds with customer service here. I have had good experiences so far but I know that others have not had this problem. A lot of the jobs are being outsourced to other countries and people are complaining because of language barriers.

I agree, sometimes customer service takes a hit when outsourced. The quality doesn't meet the expectations of people from all parts of the world.

I'm glad to hear that the US is tops on customer service. I don't think many people here appreciate that. Yes, there are a few bad apples, but it's generally as you said. US business tend to want to maintain a good reputation so that they can get even more customers to use their businesses. I've only been to Mexico and Canada and both of those places are OK. I've had problems in Mexico from time to time, mostly with overcharges, but most of the businesses there are pretty good and work hard to make you happy.

I agree, US businesses are very competitive and they fear losing customers, hence they are always tending to us no matter what. It makes shopping and doing business here a pleasure.

Cusyomer service i experienced here is also exellant,i hail from india recentely i purchased a maruti omini. We had been to a tour on the vehicle & while coming back unfortunately my omini had a engine gasket problem so radiator water mixed with engine oil vehicle was siezed,it was 10.30 in the night.I just called the dealer & told him that my vehicle was sized with in 45mins they came with two vehicles took my vehicle to the showroom & they dropped us to our house.Next day my vehicle was delivered to me with new gasket fitting & not even a pie was charged. ofcourse it was in warranty period but the service given was supereb.Even here now the customer service is taken seriously as it is a competative market.this is my experience.

That was very courteous and responsible of them. Inspite of having warranties sometimes getting good customer service is almost impossible!

I am glad you had a great experience at Targe. I have not had many positive experience sith them. I actually avoid shopping at Targe because I find their return policy to be very restrictive compare to say Walmart.

Yeah, American customer is good. But in my country, the service is bad, I never get the feeling of the King. In china, because of absent of goods before, the customer service always is not good, of cause now it became more and more better than before, escipecially in This city.
