Who thinks casinos are symbols of greed and sin?

Casinos are just some of the worst buildings around. First, gambling is a moral wrong and sin, but even "Christians" frequent and support them. Why waste your money giving it to some billionaire when you could help out your fellow man, who needs it much more. The buildings are way over the top, and just show off the owners wealth and greed.

First of all, not all casinos are owned by a single person. Most of them are owned by corporations. And a lot of the casinos not only pay a government tax(State), but they also pay a tax to the local government, which in turn, uses the money for economic developement. Don't forget, that gambling has been around for almost as long as civilized man. Now, the casino trend is for a theme, to give the guest a different experience from the regular mundane feel of the regular casino. As for showing off the wealth and greed, that could be left for another debate, but those buildings cost millions of dollars, that the corporation has to take out in loans to build, which has to be repaid. Even though the casino has the odds in getting the money from their guest, the temptation of winning money, will always bring people into the casino.

Thanks for your opinion and I understand all your points. I live right beside Gettysburg, PA, and they wanted to build a casino here but it just got turned down. In a big city, maybe a casino is ok. But this is a small, historic Civil War town that couldn't handle a casino lifestyle. I understand it helps with government programs and it is a good thing, but I would like to find other ways to help fund government programs. You are right, most are own by large corporations, but what I meant what the main holder is usually a greedy billionaire. Thanks again, as it was a good comment and I respect that!
