Are they expensive to see and hard to get an appointment with where you live? I went to the dentist (again) yesterday and was charged over $300 for a filling and clean. Do you think this is extravagent?? I think it is ridiculous...

Dentist are so hard to get into around my area (pennsylvania USA) I fortunately have dental insurance so it does not cost me that much to go to the dentist.

It's awful. Last week I had to have a filling and a root canal. The filling was $275. I could not do it. The root canal was $1000. I am paying that in a few payments. Unless it is an emergency, you will wait forever. Especially for a cleaning. The whole medical field is stinking in this country.

Wow missy that is the other reason I do not like to go to the Dentist, the other is fear! lol I have finally found a Dentist I am comfortable with after many years of searching, but they cost a fortune. A clean and checkup $120 but could be even more now and I am well overdue to go again! But $300 sounds quite steep for what you had!

I am thinking it will be cheaper for me to fly home to QLD each year to see my old dentist as she was half this price! Plus I get a few days with friends and have a holiday.

Thats true. I can't seem to find a cheaper dentist in this area though. They all charge ridiculous amounts.

I have finally joined a private medical insurance, which covers for glasses, dental & other items. I have made my yearly payments back twice fold so far just by getting the whole family there glasses. But then added bonus was when I found a “no out of pocket” dentist my daughter & I both had our 6 month clean & check up the docket said $136 each. So as far as I’m concerned I am ahead now with my medical insurance, I wish I could have afforded this sooner. Prior to getting my insurance I use to have to use the government free service, which as a low income earner I was allowed to access. Only problem it was a waiting game unless it was a emergency.

You have done well to find a dentist that has the medical insurance agreement. I used to have on e othose inQLD but in TAS it seems they are pretty rare.

I know just what you are talking about. I had a root cannel the other day and it was $900.00 and than I had to have a crown and that was $850.00 and it seems like the dentists are going up on there prices evey year. It ridiclous. And they want the money before they even work on your teeth, you can't even make payments no more.Seems like you have to save all your money just to go to the dentist.

$300 for a filling and clean? OUCH that is expensive, I thought our dentists were expensive in the UK, $300 would be about £170 in our money. We either have private dentists or NHS which are much cheaper (National Health Service) but they are hard to come by. I thought £30 was expensive for my last check up. A filling costs £50. I go twice a year, I couldn't afford to go any more times, unless its a dire emergency.

I try not to go too often for that reason also, but this one threw me! I think it is disgusting that they can charge that sort of money and still expect you to keep coming back for checkups every six months. Not to mention your children ets.
