I have tried the water gun splash, harsh words, time out in the bathroom with the door closed for 15 minutes, rolled up magazine lightly on his bottom, and no treats for a day. He still chews on furniture legs and shoes. Help?!

I have had this problem and the only thing that I have found that works is going to sound really funny!! You take a few pennies and put them into a metal container so that it makes a loud noise when you shake it. When your dog is chewing on something he shouldn't you grab the can shake it furiously and yell like a crazy person. This not only gets their attention but it startles them. If you do this enough time they will understand that if they chew different things this will happen. It is also amusement for anyone else in the room!!!LOL!!!

I have actually heard of that. I forgot all about it. Someone I knew used to do it and it worked.

Most probably your puppy is in the chewing stage because he is teething. I visited the site suggested by the previous poster and it really gives good advices such as giving chewing toys to your dog. Do not give old shoes for chewing, because dogs do not distinguish between old or a new shoe. If this does not stop your puppy from chewing up furniture or other belongings make sure that you keep your dog in a confined area.

I'm not one to ask as I still have a slight problem with one of my dogs who is three years old. he loves to chew things especially kitchen utensils. We have to block him from getting into the kitchen. I have never believed in crating an animal but I was reading a website that suggests it. But they do have other interesting ideas. I hope it helps. here is the website. http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?cls=2&cat=1551&articleid=164
