Joanna Kathleen Rowling

Mother to three beautiful children, author of the Harry Potter Novels. Wife to Neil, success story for all. Joanna's story from practically penniless single mother raising only child to millioniare can be read at the HarryPotterLexicon and at JKRowling.com. I admire her because she is an inspiration to everyone. Not only to budding writers such as myself but to single mothers across the world. Joanna went from abject poverty to immeasurable riches. She found new love with Neil her husband. They now have three beautiful children. She has never let the fame go to her head. She keeps her feet firmly upon the ground and tries like any mother to protect her family. Its hard for her though because the very nature of her books, have created nothing but bad press. Demands to ban her books and people saying that they are satanic and evil. Honestly I have read these books and I see nothing satanic or evil what I see is a fresh approach to an old discussion that has gone on for years. The Them and Us society. The rich are better than the poor, the whites are better than the blacks, people from other cultures are uncivilised and unworthy of our support. Not my view but a societical view point that we are trying every day to escape from. It still exists in our society, it may not be the white, black hatred or misconceptions that whites are better. Sorry I am not prejudice, don't think that! I am just trying to point out facts. We are terrified to say the word black or white because "they say" it offends. Yet we ignore the past atrocities at our peril. Any way, what Joanna managed to do was teach children that prejudice does indeed exist that atrocities continue but she did it a way that really hits home to children and yet it doesn't bore them to death, like our history lectures. She gives a good overview of the Purebloods and the Muggleborns. Purebloods want the Muggleborns out at least that is the ethos that is being spread by Salazar Slytherin and Tom Riddle followed by the death eaters or torture and maim muggles for fun! This is not Joanna's view, this is my opinion of her books. Well if that is evil or satanic then every sociological history book must be evil and satantic as well. All Joanna did was take a magical world that we had all forgotten existed, split it into three parts. Muggleborns, Purebloods and non-magical folk. Like then when the black people where enslaved by the white people in my own home city. Lord Rodney for example. There where people, good people fighting against this prejudice and trying to free the slaves from the atrocities they suffered. There is a darker side to life and to nature. Scarily how many children want to be a deatheater and a Pure blood, how many love Draco and Lucius Malfoy over all and want to be in Slytherin rather than Gryffindor. Does this mean that our children want to be Pure Bloods and kill and torture muggles? No I don't think so, I think its just that children like adults think its fun to be bad but provided its fiction. I don't think any child would really trully take a wand and spin a muggle in the air. Provided they are not brought up to prejudice and think that they are better than someone else. The important thing is that we are all created by some force of divinity and we are all human. We have the right to live our lives, speak the truth and stamp out atrocities against human beings and animals. Joanna had an idea on the train about a magical boy, caught in a world of love, betrayal and injustice. Where magic is never talked about muggles are protected from it, for their own sake. Muggles would never understand, they would be frightened by magic, ha! they would find a scientific reason for it! Muggles just cannot comprehend the life of a Wizard or Witch in Joanna's world of Wizards. She doesn't want them to, but she does not want to change them or make all muggles magical. She protects Muggles from ever knowing the impossible. Her Wizard World is like that magical world that some of us believe exists but we don't have the key to open the door or the portal. So before any one starts yelling that I am prejudice and I have no right to mention the slave trade or blacks or whites or anything. Go read the history books. I live with the pride of knowing I treat every human being on this planet with the respect that they deserve. I believe they have a right to life, to food, warmth and water. I also believe in Martin Luther Kings speech "I have a Dream". I do not portray, convey or condone any form of prejudice or injustice against any one living thing, vegetable, animal or mineral. I am a Wiccan Christian Catholic, I believe that everything in our Universe has an energy and life force. I follow a code to do no harm and the three fold law. I admire Joanna because she brought magic back into our lives and meaning back into our lives. I think the first film went out just after or just before we where recovering from 9/11. Evil was rife and what Joanna did was bring a little light into our lives. Warner Bros created a film from her books that gave us hope for a better world. The fight against Good and Evil continues and will continue and people will be writing about Good and Evil for decades to come. I hope that Joanna will not be offended by this discussion, I will remove it if she wishes it to be removed. I don't think you realised that your Pure Blood war against Muggles had connotations to any prejudice that humans have created against each other. I think you where just writing a story that had to be told. I personally thank you for that.

Well I can't see why she'd want it to be removed. You are honoring her and showing what all she's accomplished. I love her books and how they tell so much more then just the story of good vs. evil. There is far more there then that. There is abuse, bigotry in many forms, loyalty, friendship, honor..so much is shown in there, both good and bad, for people to learn from. She's a wonderful writer and you are not alone in appreciating her.
