Scallops, how long to cook?

How long do you cook scallops? A set number of minutes, or until they are opaque? I had them in a upscale restaurant, and one time they were like a little pink? in the middle. I told the waitress they weren't done, so she told the chef. He said that's the way they're supposed to be. Anyone ever heard of this?

no my scallops have always been white all the way through. That doesn't sound right to me

That's what I thought. I was kinda disgusted and couldn't eat it!

I saw today someone cook them for 5 minutes on each side.
