How do you control hyperactive kids?

I have a 10-month-old baby boy and he's using up all my energy! He likes to tumble around and walk (even if he still can't), and I don't get to do anything but watch him for fear that he'll stumble on something and hurt himself. I can't make him stay still even for a moment. He gets distracted easily. Please help!

I don't think he's hyperactive. How many naps does he take during the day? What is his bedtime? What routines do you have during the day and do you have a bedtime routine? It sounds like a couple of things will help you out with him. He is not going to be still. This is how the human body creates muscle strenght and coordination, so you rearrange your home so that there are not so many things he cn hurt himself on as he learns to move about with more balance. If you can't do anything but watch him then you can do little things like saving housework for times when he's napping, then have a couple of planned activities, like going outside if its warm enough, for when he's awake. Close doors to rooms where you odn't want him poking around or put up a toddler gate to limit his wandering. What and how is he eating? YOu might talk to a doctor or read a few books on mutrition so that you can change the amount of carbohydrates he is getting in any one sitting, and raise the protein intake so that he doesn't hae a diprpotionate level of carbs, which create the type of energy that has you frazzled, to protiens, which slow the absorpton of carbs. Finally, when you rearrange the house, make sure you have things set so that you don't have to have your eyes on him every moment. Make sure there is nothing he can grab, knock over, or put in his mouth that will cause you concern.
