back surgery

Hi,
I would like to know if anyone out there has had back surgery?
I have that as an option for my back problems from an auto accident and would really appreciate feedback....success of back surgery and what the surgery was intended to correct?

I didn't have this surgery but my sister did. She had the one were they fuse some of the spine together. Her's was in the lower lumbar region. It helped in some ways but the problem came in right after her surgery the surgeon went on vacation and the covering doctor knew nothing about backs. She developed a cyst around the spine that is now hardened there. So I would recommend if you do have surgery of any kind make sure the surgeon is staying in town right afterwards in case of complications.
