Dubbed movies: annoying?

I'm curious about to what's your people's opinion about dubbed movies. I personally find them to be extremely annoying, I wonder why such are even produced nowadays, even if thankfully there are less and less as the times go by, but they're still out there though. Just the other day I had to argue with my girlfriend for "forcing" me to watch Saving Nemo dubbed in portuguese, she fails to see how annoying it is because her english skills aren't the greatest all around, but to me as a completely fluent person in english it was a bit of a pain to have to watch a dubbed movie. Why not put just some subtitles on these movies instead? Really, dubbed movies are just a waste of time and money by the translators, they'd be far better off writing down the dialogues and placing some subtitles on the screen, it's not even hard to do that. So, what's your people's opinion anyway?

I also hate it when movies are dubbed. When they are dubbed it just looks stupid. I can't look to a movie when it's dubbed. Especcialy in Germany it is terrible over there they dubb every english movie. I don't understand why they dub it. it costs alot and adding a subtitles doesn't take soo long.

Absolutely stupid, indeed. I know it's quite common in Germany and that pisses me off, since I think of travellling to Deutschland in the future quite a lot...better avoid Kino, huh?

Yup that's quite stupid I think. Most English movies (not to say all) are dubbed in France, don't know why, but they have to have it in their own language which is dumb. Because it ruins the real emotions, it looks fake and it's not so hard to read subtitles, is it?

Yep, couldn't help but underline what you've just said and agree with every single word! I didn't know it was so common in France, it shouldn't be...thanks for your reply anyway!

Haha, I can bet they do! Yeah, dubbed movies are just not worth your money, so I'm glad you've left Spiderman after 15 minutes, good call. Thanks for your reply.

Even though some movies are annoying but some movies i enjoy them watching the dubbed movie rather than the original because, in our place they add more humor with our own slang and jokes in the dialogues, especially I like to watch Jackie Chan's movies very much when it is dubbed in our local language which adds more humor to it.

So I need to focus with the image not the text. second, I dont know about others country dubbing. But Indonesian dubbing not too bad. ^^ I like dubbing and critics Indonesia dubber if I feel they dubbed bad. ^^

You're the first one going against the chain in here. No problem about that either, since you present some good points. If the dubbing is off quality in Indonesia and you're happy with it, then I'm glad for you. But I think the general feeling is that dubbing is unecessary. Thanks for the reply.

Well, dubbed movies aren't quite what you're saying they are. I think you've got some pretty bad quality movies from a black market in Hong Kong or something of the sort and were not satisfied with it. But what I mean with dubbed movies are movies that are originally in one certain language and are later translated to the language of the countries where it's being shown by dubbing.

I currently live in France (originally from the Netherlands where only movies for children are dubbed!) and here they dub everything (also TV shows), it's so annoying! They usually use incredibly bad voice actors which can make an otherwise fantastic movie or TV show dreadfully bad and unwatchable for me. I'm lucky to live near two 'art' cinemas that also show movies in their original version, but some movies that I badly want to see are only ever available in French and I'm not paying money to go see that. I usually end up having to buy the DVD just to see the movie.
