Is very hard to keep track of all the species that are currently recognised by science. However, at a rough count, about 4796 species of lizards are currently known. http://www.amonline.net.au/herpetology/faq/reptiles.htm

I think limited species but many different kinds within species and I would question if you include skinks and geckos
