Just because they are animated, doesnt mean they are cartoons. I believe cartoons are light and laugh provoking. Anime has some fun, but most I've seen have too much violence and adult content in them. Comments?

Technically, anime are cartoons, but they've become a generic description. It's now one of the most unavoidable art forms on Earth. I find it a bit predictable. It's suffered from becoming formularized to a large extent, with much emphasis on a surprisingly monocultural future full of instant plots and ordinary storylines. I can only assume the "adult" material is targeted at some pretty simple adults. YouTube is absolutely saturated with anime. It is impossible to move in the art area without getting pages of it. The really creative anime, such as can be found among the generic stuff, is surprisingly good, and sufficiently different to deserve a bit of respect. Neon Genesis Evangelion is an example of a real effort at an epic story, and works to a large extent. I think it'll have to grow out of this phase in time so it can become what it claims to be.

I agree ... anime seems more like everyday situations and violence where cartoons were made to be cute and funny. Most kids these days don't know what real cartoons are like unless they happen to have cable television. When I was growing up the Anime was not around, however, claymation was created back then. Remember the 'California Raisins' claymation show?
