My family and I went for a quick run to the shops last evening in our second car. It is a very old 4 cylinder hatch. We we coming hom when the car spluttered and stopped. It was about 6 hours before we had caught a cab home, called roadside assist and got the car towed back to our house. Dinner was really late last night lol. How reliable are your cars? I think cars know when you are strapped for cash before they play up too.......

My car is only two years old and I have it serviced every 10,000 miles so it is quite reliable. I would have gone ape if I had to wait 6 hours for a taxi. Whenever my last car broke down, I always phoned the AA and they would be on the scene within an hour. I think they give preference to lady drivers. Good for them!

Our good car is only a year old so I haven't had any trouble with that one yet, but the second car was the problem on Thursday! It is just a runaround and we don't usually all go out in it, but now it is sitting in the driveway waiting for my husband to do some well needed maintenance!

i just got a 2003 jeep liberty 3 months ago, so it better be reliable. Also I have AAA so if i would ever break down or run out of gas, i just call them and a tow truck comes out to help me.

Hi Doesnt this piss you off!!! My wife and I went to Portsmouth, which is about 2 hours from our home, to watch a concert. A very easy drive, because it is Motorway nearly ALL the way!! Fabulous concert, we thoroughly enjoyed it, and proceeded home! Half way home.............. Smoke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I got onto the Hard Shoulder, phoned assistance, and the AA came to have a look!!! "You have cooked the engine mate!" he said. Because I am not a FULL member of Road Side Assistance, it cost me................. £148 to get a tow home!!!!! That is 290 DOLLARS Ouch!!

ouch alright... Thankfully I was covered to get the tow home. I did ask about this though when I rang them. I usually only use assistance when I lock my keys in the car so this was a first for me hahaha

hhaha, that is a good last statement. Yes, those cars do know when to break down, always when we are low on cash. We have a 2001 pick up silverado. It's been okay so far. We have over 75,000 miles on it. But, I did notice that things are starting to go bad, and we will have to fix them, before it just won't want to work one day. But, what can we do without them? I'm sorry you had that misfortune of your car being mean to you like that. Hopefully it will feel better after you fix it, and stay healthy for awhile.

My husband gave it some TLC yesterday and it seems to be running again now. It needs a good overhaul though and I don't know if it is worth it. We might just sell it and get another little runaround car. My car is a 2006 KIA and she always behaves for me....

6 hours before getting a taxi? For a quick trip to the shops, not a very quick trip.. lol I have had a history of unreliable cars, there was a time I regularly had a 45km one way trip to work every day, before mobile phones, I would know exactly were the roadside emergency phones where, & wether I had to walk forward or back to the closest phone.

It was 6 hours before the car was back home. The cab took about half an hour because we weren't sure of the name iof the street we were in and the number connected to a call centre in Melbourne etc etc.
