It's a temporary mental illness similar to an obsessive compulsive disorder triggered by phermones and visual/physical stimuli designed to trigger an evolved mating/bonding response in the organism. Usually over time the symptoms of the initial illness subside and either result in seperation or a rationalized longterm codependent relationship based on shared experiences and financila dependence.
