I know that I have a different name and people ask me how I got it. I've know of other people with different names as well. I'd love to know, if you know, the reason why you were given the name that you were given.
My first name is Deirdre. My mother was reading a book while she was pregnant with me, and that was the name of one of the characters. She ended up falling in love with the name, so when she had me, she diecided to call me Deirdre.

I got my name, Neil, because my father wanted me to have a name that couldn't be shortened, and because my family name is Scottish he wanted me to have a forename that was also Scottish.
My son was named after his mother's father, Raymond, and my father, Owen.

UPDATE: I just heard a new one that's bizarre, so I thought I'd share it with you guys. Intead of explaining who she is, I'm just gonna tell you what I was told. Her name is Philly, yep, that's it. The parents thought they were having a boy, and wanted to name him Phillip (Phil for short) for the Philharmonic (guess they're really into that music). When they had a girl too, they were stunned. Phyllis was the only similar name they could think of for her, but they hated the name (I won't even get into that story). So they ket saying Phil, Phil, Phil and adding anything they could think of to the end, and that's how they ended up with Philly. Gotta give 'em credit - it is original!

My mther always told me she loved the name Susan since she was a little girl. My older kids name my daughter when she was born. She was named after a character in Sonic the Hedgehog. LOL, but it's cute. Julie Sue.

My mother told me that I was named after my grandmother from a greek name Demetria, and my nickname came from the first words of my grandmother and grandfather's names.According to the book of names and it's meaning my name means "goddess of fertility".

Okay here is my story. My parents hadn't thought of a name for me during the pregnancy. They thought they would see me first and then decide. My mom did know that she wanted my middel name to be Lynn, which is her middle name, but they didn't really have a first name picked out.
So along I come out of the birth canal, and off I go to get cleaned up, and my mom is still having contractions. Surprise, she was having twins. Back when I was born they didn't check for that during the pregnancy.
So out comes my sister and now my parents have two girls they need to name. Well my dad, being the silly man that he is, says hey, lets name them Molly and Dolly. Well my mom was so against that, that she just kind of grasped for names, and we were named Cheryl and Christina.
I am so glad she didn't accept my dad's idea because I just wouldn't want to go thorugh life as Dolly Lynn. I think I would have ended up being a totally different person.

I forgot to tell you how I got my daughters name. When I was about 10 I saw a movie called If You Could See What I Hear. There was this little girl in int aht I thoguht was just the cutest thing. Anyways her name was Blythe and I just fell in love with the name right then an there. The name means happiness and once I found that out I decided that when I had a daughter I would neam her that. My daughter is now 8, almost 9 and she really does live up to her name, as she is almost always happy.

Oh, that's a nice name. It's different. Just remind her that when kids get all those perzonalized items that already have thier names on them that not to worry if she doesn't find one for her. Maybe tell her she's so special that one has to be made just for her. Can you tell I grew up with a different name too?

I got my name because my parents wanted me to have a name that was simple, and easy to use in many langauges. Originally, I was slated to have the very Danish name "Preben," but my dad had gone through much international travel with a hard-to-pronounce danish name, and didn't want that for me-- so they settled on "Peter" instead.

Well, Peter is much easier to pronounce and spell so it's easier I think. Then again, I thought that would be the case when I got married - but they still can't figure out how to spell it. I even tell them it's spelled the way it sounds, so I repeat it slowly. It's only 2 syllabals and they still don't get it.
