Life, death and probabilty

Don't know if this makes sense but here goes.
There are those who claim that for every event there are an infinite number of probable effects. Now lets call LIFE an event. Of the number of infinite probabilities that arise from a life, I could logically assume that one of them is immortality. On the flip side I would have to assume that death could also be final, the cessation of life, existence and no tomorrow.
In fact every event other than one leads to death. Out of the infinite number of probabilities only one is immortality. That means no matter how we look at it there are only two probabilities, life or death. Despite the myriad of possible outcomes it comes down to one or the other. It seems the odds of living forever are seriously against us, infinity to 1, if that is allowed.
Are we increasing our chances of hitting immortality with advancements in medical science? Will a generation of the future find the one improbable path to immortality? If we accomplish immortality then what will happen to our systems of beliefs?

here's what I believe, "It is appointed for man to die ones and then judgement." look up your bible if you please.
Physical immortality if this is what you want to achieve in all the research you do, might not the thing you really want.
In ones life though, the memeory of you may become immortal.

1) The human race will wipe itself out before we even get a chance to find a way to become immortal.
2) If we became immortal... we would need to colonize some other planets as our own planet can only sustain a certain amount of people. We have already passed the safe limit.
3) I don't believe that immortality is possible... because... how do you survive a nuclear war if you nuke the whole planet... and how do you survive a two miles long asteroid slamming into our planet.
4) The best we can hope for... is to find ways to prolong our life to 150 years old. But there is no point in doing that unless you have a good healthy quality of life. So before we go on in prolonging life... we should be looking at retarding the ageing process. If you are going to live until 150... you should be able to work until 100.
