okay here is a idea for those of you that want to coin shoot, but have no detector to do it with. :) You will need a shovel and a spagetti strainer. When you find old homesite, it's a good idea to check the front and backdoords of the home. If possible you can move the strairs, shovel about 6-8 inches of dirt off the top layer and put it in your strainer and shake the dirt out. This will leave behind treasure in your strainer. You can find old coins this way, old rings, etc. You can do this under clothes lines too! Remember this is the most important thing about metal detecting....COVER YOUR HOLES, ALWAYS!!!!! DON'T RUIN IT FOR OTHERS! krissy

Yes I think this is a great idea if we do not own a detector but it would be a lot slower, to do this so I think I will stick with the detector, why do you say cover it as I would of taken whatever was there and the others digging for coins or any other valuables would be wasting their time.

Hey dont forget to look where the porch was. Kids tend to go on the porch and count their piggy banks and they would drop coins under the porch.

what I am really interested in is how to sell your finds of old jewelry and get what they are worth?

This is again a great thing for us to keep in mind. I have done this a time or two in my life and it does bring surprises. Grand that you urge the returning of our dig site to its normal look! Thanks for sharing this for others to learn from! Hope that they give it a try!
