Satanism and Paganism

As I said in another discussion ("Wicca and Catholic can it mix"), I'm going to start a discussion about Satanism and Paganism.
My liking for Satan when I was a boy never became esteem because fundamentally I've always seen him as a person who tried to take over someone else's place in exercising power. This has nothing to do with the great esteem that I've always had for Prometheus who altruistically disobeys Gods to help human beings.
Eve, one of the few women in Jewish mythology I admire, also disobeys Yaweh to get one personal advantage. I see no harm in it, but I think that Prometheus' deed is of a higher level.
I liked Satan because of his desire to destroy the hierarchy Yaweh set up.
The thing that I reject about this Myth is the banalization it creates in followers of Catholicism, i.e. the fact that they divide the world into white or black, right or wrong, good or bad, infernal or heavenly.
Existence, life, everything that happens, happened and will happen around us, has so many shades, so many tones of grey, that it's impossible to dualistically reduce all the issues that involve them. Who was Satan in Bosnia, Clinton or Milosevic? And in Rwanda, the Hutus or the Tutsis? And in East Timor, the Christians or the Muslims? The constant game of finding things either bad or good is one I'll leave to the Christians, beacuse they always "know" where right and wrong lie. On the other hand, the day before yesterday, on an evening television show, the Italian singer Adriano Celentano told Piero Pelù, another Italian singer: "Women should never have abortions". Really? Is a woman who has abortion always a torturer and never a victim?
I conclude my article by saying that I agree with Fulvio Rendhell in his book "Lilith, Satan's bride", when he states that "magic gives Satan the value of emancipating human beings in the eternal struggle with darkness. This is symbolized by a he-goat with a lighted black candle between his horns that illuminates the surrounding darkness" and that "the Catholic Church, combining sin with magical negativity and giving it an infernal demoniacal look", but the myth of Satan never resonated for me.
If somebody asked me: "What does the word "lightbearer" make you think of?" I'd doubtless answer: "PROMETHEUS".

Satanism and paganism are the same thing really. You are following satan and his evil ways whenever you disobey God.

Of course it is the same thing. Anything that goes against God is evil...you are following satan whether you admit to it or not.

Satan is part of the Christian belief system. As a pagan I have my own path and beliefs, I don't believe in your God or your Satan but have my own view of the world and it didnt come out of a BOOK!!!

NOt really sure what you are getting at here but in response to the title. To believe in Satan you surley have to acknowledge Christianity as Satan is the flip side of the christian faith. Paganism is a path in its own right, has no connection with Christianity and therefore has nothing to do Satan.

Well, ok, I feel obliged to apologize once again for my bad English, and so, maybe my writings are incomprehensible, but if you read my previous answer, you'll see that I think like you. One of the things that I find wonderful in Paganism is the non existance of Holy Writings that impose ethical precepts.

Well Steerpyke, no problem, unfortunately my English is bad and from time to time I could write things that people can easily misunderstand.

I guess my immediate question is what does your post have to do with Satanism? Satanists dont believe in Satan...and for that matter neither do many Pagans...No trying to be rude, i'm just curious is all..

Yes, you are right, in truth I have to add that what I wrote was the answer to an old article by an English Pagan who said that "Pagans must not be afraid of Satan, because Satan is a positive symbol".
Paganism has nothing to do with Satanism because Paganism has no Holy Writings who say who's the good and who's the bad.
You say that "Satanists don't believe in Satan", very interesting, I'd like to know more, if you feel like doing it.

Satanists dont believe in God or Satan...Satan, much like God is a Christian created concept...Satanists are about self preservation, living for the self and so on..it has nothing to do with worshiping Satan at all..That being said though, what is it you'd like to know?

Thank you for your answer. I find interesting what you say, I never knew satanists, and so I couldn't know what you told me.
