Another one of my favorite mines is the moorefield mine, in amelia county. All type of rocks can be found here. Mostly Amazonite, but there is also quartz, mica, feldspur, and more. It's a neat little mine they allow you to hunt their property for a loaw price a person. On mondays is for reservations only, but other times of the week is open to the public. here is a link www.toteshows.com/morefield.html krissy

Do you travel alot to mine for treasures? You are giving me the desire to do this. I remember once we went to a mine in Oregon but I never found a thing. I honestly dont think there was anything to find.

well I try to get to the mines at least once a year, this year maybe difficult though. I take 2 vacations a year. I will be spending one vacation in virgina civil war hunting and one vacation trip in maryland for a family reunion in which I have not seen my aunt and cousins for 30 years, so the mines might have to take a rest this year. Still plan on bringing something back, so maybe can hit the mountains and find some rocks! :) krissy

I know this is probably a dumb question, but what do you do with the stones that you collect...SS

well I usually keep all my rocks, I have sold some in the past and made a nice chunk of change off of them. But really do this just to collect them! krissy

The Moorefield mine is a pretty cool place to go. We lived in Chesterfield, just southeast of Amelia County and many of the kids field trips were to the mines. They used to come back with some really pretty rocks. I think the reservations are mainly for the schools.

this place you don't actually go into the mines, the stuff they mine is brought out from the mines and is dumped by the sluices so you can hunt through the stuff. So this is totally safe! krissy

Moorfield Mine, sounds a very interesting place to find all types of rocks, and that is good that the prospector has to make reservations on Mondays as they may get too many people digging that day.

well the mondays they usually reserve for the school field trips, but anyone can go on that day as long as you get a reservation. I made the mistake the first time there, we went on a monday, and were almost turned away until I told her we were from Florida and have came such a long way to get there, so the lady had a heart and didn't turn us away and allowed us to dig that day! I walked out of there that day with a 5 gallon bucket full of rocks, I was happy! :) krissy krissy
