I have a friend who when she was having her baby we were discussing baby names, we both allready had boys the same age and she new she was having a girl. Well i mentioned that I know I want to call my next child Charlie after my grandfather, as Ive always wanted to do that since he died 9 years ago (our first was named after his other grandfather). Well thats fine and she had a name picked out allready for hers, Problem being she says her other friend stole her name she had and so she named her baby Charlie!! Knowing full well that thats what i was going to name my next child and theres no one in her family named that. We see each other every now and again, but ive never mentioned it to her or her to me. I must say im a bit pissed as i feel she stole my childs name, maybe im just being a sook and petty but i know that i wont name my child that now and im still dissapointed about it. Whats your opinion on this, What would you do?

Oooh that is something that has always irritated me too . I hate when people steal names . I was pregnant and had told a friend weather it was a boy or a girl I wanted to name the baby Morgan and that my husband had agreed . Well it ended up that my friend (at the time , we are no longer friends )got pregnant shortly afterwards . I ended up having a miscarriage and when I did I will never forget what she said to me . She said " Well I guess you won't be needing that name anymore " , and she ended up naming her child Morgen . She felt it was ok because she changed the spelling . I was very hurt and do not tell people the names I have picked out anymore unless I know for 100% sure that they will not like them at all , therefore won't be able to steal them .

I think I would be angry as well if my so called friend did that to me ... and I would have a chat to her about it.
I know my best friend very well and If I ever upset her she would tell me so, as I would tell her if she upset me.
But I would still name him Charlie if you want to,
or maybe you could use Charlie as his middle name?
Charles, Carl, Carlo, Karl, Cary, Charley, Chuck are all similar to Charlie
Theres lots more names here...
