When it comes to medication is there a difference in name brands and their generic equivalent? I used to think they were the same. I worked as a pharmacy technician and thats what we were taught and taught to tell our customers. But now I have learned a little about it and taken several types medication and I think maybe there is.

Some generics will be slightly different but the active ingredients are the same. If they were not equivalent, then they could not be sold as a substitution. There are times though that I do not want generic over the counter meds. Take Motrin for example. If I take the generic, it upsets my stomach even though it says it is coated. But Motrin does not upset my stomach. In this case, they are using different types of coating but the coating does not make the medication. So, even though it is really the same...it isn't.

If they are FDA regulated, they are the same formulation. Things like colors and shapes are changed for marketing reasons, and the difference in COST is that the primary company did all the R&D and probably some heavy duty marketing.

Generics are fine if the Pharmacist checks the ingredients and assures the same

Even though name brand meds are more better in quality purposes, I prefer Generics.

well i work for a health insurance company, and we were taught that techinally there is no different of the chemical makeup of the generic brand and the brand name, the brand name is just more expensive because of the name on it.
