Yawning! Is it really contagious?

What is it with yawning? I've been observing this action all my life, and it amuses me. When I yawn beside my husband, he also yawns after me, or the other way around. It's like contagious and affects the person beside you. Do th eperson beside you yawn after you? Any ideas about this one?
