did you choose your pet?

Did you choose your pet, did your pet choose you, or did you take your pet in when it was made homeless?
We have three rosellas which we gave a home when my father in law decided to emigrate. I had decided I was going to have a rag doll cat as I am fairly immobile due to illness and they apparently are like me. Pick a spot where they are happy and comfortable and stay there.
Obviously the arrival of the birds has put paid to that plan. I love the little horrors to pieces, but it has occurred to me that I always get my pets in this way. Someone else doesn't want a critter, it ends up living here. Does this happen to you?

It is lovely to get chosen in that way :-) I am fortunate to know the little chap and he is an absolute darling, even if my birdies do think he is public enemy no 1 lol.

Yes, my great big ferocious cichlid Nemo loves Gissi. They stare each other out through the glass. Nemo was also a rescue pet!

Another Gissi? Do you think they are from another planet and they are going to take over the world and rule? It would be a much happier place if these little chappies ran the place, wouldn't it?

Do you know, people who leave animals in that way make me so cross! It is so easy to take them to a refuge or even prevail upon someone to take them there really is no excuse!
The little lady is very, very lucky that she has found such a good home. I wonder what your little doggie is going to think of his new playmate?
Well done you for taking her in, and I hope she gives you as many hours of pleasure as the other little fella.

Ahhhhh! How lovely, especially about your cat who you have had for so long!
You are like me then, happy home for most critters (but not, as I have said in another discussion snakes! lol).
The animals must like the calm and happy vibes which emanate from us!

Yup, told you we were soul sisters, I do just the same. I am glad your Mum could see the positive side of it and approve.

I got my Titon from a rescue. I chose the type of dog I wanted, but he chose me. When I got to the rescue she had four dogs at the time. 3 were full grown and titon was only two. He walked right up to me and sat on my feet. lol I guess that was his way of saying "mine".

Oh how lovely! What a clever dog, also. He knew exactly what he wanted and when he saw you he knew he could have it and made his move. If that is him in the photo he looks very happy there with his chew.

he certainly looks happy in that photo! He is also a very handsome dog. You were more than lucky to get him from a rescue. I am almost jealouse, he is also a very good canine model. Anyone would love him.

The bird my mother decided the grand kids needed in other words she didn't want it anymore, it's very loud and annoying. The dog use to belong to my daughters friend, they had to get rid of her because thier nieghbors kept complaining about her she's a big dog with a really big bark, the cat my husband decided he needed

Oh wow! You are just like me! This pet is extremely annoying, I know, I will give it to her! As you know I love my birds but they are right little terrors.
I think dogs bark for a reason when they are well trained, alerting you to strangers around or barking for joy. It is strange that many people will tolerate loud music but the teeniest yip from a dog sets them off.
I think also like me, the pets are lucky, they have a happy home and are thoroughly spoiled :-)

Yes, my neighbour, the one I cook for, often brings in a tub of cress for the boys (the velvet backed rosellas) as this is their favourite treat.

Gissi had the distinct advantage of having every little bit of cuteness that a puppy has but being grown up enough to know when to behave! He is such a little bundle of love it is amazing he was in a refuge to begin with, and yes, Gissi being Gissi, he definitely DID choose!

we have takin in pets that just happened to take up with us for some reason.
we took in a couple of puppies once that followed me from the dixie dump one named bandit the other smoky ond one evening bandit came running to the house crying like mad and had me follow him back to the dumpper. Smoky wasnt around allthoo I hollered and hollered for him he never showed I figured some one picked him up and not bandit and bandit was upset! when we moved back home we had to go to another job so left bandit with the kids when we got back about 2 weeks later he was gone he ran off with a pack of wild dogs.
the pets we have now we bought thw white one for daughter but he took up with me so hes mine, she bought the cream colored one and he is really really hers and the black one is the son of the creamcolored one

So at the moment your pets were chosen, sweet! They are lovely little creatures, too, aren't they? It is a sad tale about smoky and the bandit, I wonder what happened to smoky? Maybe he ran away with the wild dogs first and then bandit found him again.
