Yes it has an effect. Because when we are online we don't care about communicating with someone. Like you always think that you have the computer and you don't need any other relationship.
You fell safe that you have the internet and you need nothing else and that means you don't communicate or respect others and results in worsening relations with parents and friends.
Internet can be addictive and I was. Just keep a rule like only certain hours a day and the rest with you family.

The only thing that I can suggest is not to have a computer at all in order to avoid computer or internet addiction. It would be hard for me to not go on the computer and internet with a computer in my house. Otherwise I think it is difficult to avoid it. A person has to have good discipline not to spend too much time on a computer these days. Computers and internet are very addictive and now that there are ways to make money online, it is making it even more addictive.
