Global warming................

What I'm wondering is, is it just the general public who are contributing mostly to global warming?
Because, I was thinking about this earlier, and I realised that 'men' have been sending rockets into space for decades, therefore, that would surely damage the ozone layer in a couple of ways, and that testing/using nuclear weapons would probably mess the ozone layer up too, so I was just wondering, is it really up to us, the general public to put an end to global warming? Fair enough, we should all do our bit by not using too much electricity, not leaving anything on standby, turning the heating down by just one degree and using energy saving lightbulbs and energy saving appliancies etc. But do you recon that by not trying to blow each other up and not having wars and not testing/using nuclear weapons and not regularly sending people/rockets etc into space that that would put an end to global warming more quickly? Or am I missing something here?

I think you might have a point there Dory. Of course, we all should do stuff to help where we can but all the things you have said must be large contributors. And I get a bit fed up of "us" being told about it and how we have to do something. USA is the worst offender and they are doing the least.(I'm sure there are general public Americans who do their bit though) and then people such as us, who live on tiny islands which aren't actually half as bad as some of the bigger countries get moaned at and all this stuff telling us to be environmentally friendly! But yes, I think you are right. Basically, if governments did more to help and less to damage then the problem wouldn't have even been so bad.(But apparently there is no such thing as ozone layer any more anyway so it doesn't matter!)

What? There's no such thing as the ozone layer? Where's that gone then? When did that happen? Was I asleep that day or something? Do you know a website or anything about that?

I think I heard it on some news thing or I might have read it somewhere. It was a whole thing about the ozone layer just being like the equator, ie. just a thing that was made up as a kind of guide as to where Earth stops and space begins or something.

You'll never be a world leader.
Your arguement is perfectly locigal and, obviously the things you describe have had more effect on the planet than the small amount each individual adds to the pollution. It is really up to governments to lead by example but the people who could do the best job don't want to be world leaders.

You see what you've done there is used some common sense, which the general public has got quite a bit more of than government people.
It doesn't really matter if rockets do contribute to it, there's plenty of other reasons not to send them in space, like £5 million could go to sorting out Earth, before they bugger up space too.
And a lot of big leadery people have got at least 2 cars and they're the ones who keep saying to buil houses everywhere, instead of having trees, so that we don't all die.

Hi "dorypanda",
What u say is absolutely right. It is upto to us to put an end to this global warming. And itis just not the wars and nuclear tests that are responsible for it. Infact only 0.79% of the global warming is due to rockets, missiles and wars. The major reason for global warming deforestation. Global warming is
due to green house gases like CO2 and methane. The main sources are industries and VEHICLES we drive. Plants help absorb carbon dioxide which is the major gas responsible for this.
We can stop this all by following few easy steps like:
1..Solar energy can be used to heat homes, buildings, water, and to make electricity.
2..Products with the ENERGY STAR® label are made to save energy. Buying products with ENERGY STAR® labels will help protect the environment.
3..Planting trees is fun and a great way to reduce greenhouse gases.
4..You can save energy by sometimes taking the bus, riding a bike, or walking.
