they are normally shiny (lustrous),malleable,ductile solids with high melting pints and boiling points.they are also good conductors of heat and electricity.in the priodic table,element of group IA and IIA and all transition elements are metals.some of the elements of groups IIIA,IVA, and VIA are also metals.metals always form positive ions (cations).
and there is one more type of metal called "non-metal"
non-metals are bad conductors of heat and eclectricity.most of them are gasses.in the periodic table, majority of element of p-block (group IIIA, IVA, VA, VIA, VIIA and VIIIA)care nonmetals.all the nonmetals from negative ions (anions).
