Hello! Here is the best advice I can give you: Try to post quality answers. This means replying with more than a sentence or two, if you can. You should definitely be earnings points and money each time you reply to a topic for the first time. I have generally earned around two cents per post, for the majority of my time here on Mylot. You will of course have to wait until the next day to see your earnings update. They generally seem to update around 8-10am central standard time. You should be making at least a couple of cents per topic that you start, too, if you get replies. I am not sure if we get paid if we start a topic and we don't get at least one reply. I do know that if you start a really popular topic that gets lots of replies, you will get more money for that day. Maybe not a huge amount more, but some more. I have definitely noticed this with my own earnings. I hope that this helps you out a little bit!^_^
