If someone killed their abuser....

If someone were being repeatedly abused and eventually killed their abuser, do you think they should get a lighter sentence for murder? If it's alright to shoot a burglar in your house if you feel your life is being threatened, than why not someone who is abusing you that you can't get away from or that would just hunt you down if you did?
