Dale, Jr. and DEI

It's being reported that Dale, Jr. is making majority ownership in DEI a sticking point in his contract. He feels that he should have that majority stake, not his stepmom. She feels that she is due that stake because of the amount of help she gave Dale, Sr.
Question; Does Jr. deserve that stake and why or why not? Do you think he'll leave DEI if he doesn't get it or will he stay, realizing he has a good thing going? Will Theresa decide she doesn't want him as a driver anymore because of this?

I think he's entitled to part ownership based on him being family not as part of his racing contract. Teresa is the one that was there helping Sr. build the company into what it is today. He would have been just as happy racing and nothing more. Really it's HER company now and it should be up to her to decide who, if anyone she wants to share it with. She has Taylor to think of too, not just his adult children.
Jr. has his own Busch team so I really don't see the point. Why does he need to be handed ownership of a Nextel team too? If he'd earned it as a driver then maybe but he hasn't yet. As a family member, I think he's already gotten a lot of help on the road to success. Majority ownership of DEI just seems greedy. If he wants his own Nextel team so bad I'm sure he has the means to do it himself.
Selfishly I do hope he loses his DEI ride. Richard Childress still owns the rights to #3 and has been reported to say that he won't race it unless it's an Earnhardt driving. So just imagine this scenario...Jr leaves DEI and goes to RCR, you know Budweiser and Wrangler will go with him. Childress will bring back the #3 and it'll be just like the old days: Earnhardt/#3/Wrangler with Budweiser as a bonus. This will leave DEI looking for a new driver. That's where big brother Kerry will finally get his big break. He'll show little brother who's really good. And then with his own son starting the 4th generation of driver's, we'll have an Earhardt father/son combo again.

Glad to see someone else sees things the way I do. I think Jr. has been handed everything right from the start. Now, he wants the company just handed to him. No one else in racing would try this move. Does he ever sound like a spoiled brat to you?
Kerry was never given even a quarter of the support that Jr. got. I've often wondered how good Kerry would be now if he'd been given a chance when he was younger.
I hope Teresa puts Jr. in his place. Surely she doesn't think he's the only one who can drive the car. I'm actually not sure the playboy is the best choice, any way.

Kelly isn't in the business side of DEI. She just help Jr. out she enjoys her kids to much for the whole business thing. Jr still isn't comfortable with the idea of driving the 3 car and if Kerry is so great why hasn't childress alredy picked him up?? And don't worry Jr. won't forget about Taylor

I've heard Jr. say that back when they were racing on the local tracks, their sister Kelly was actually the best driver. She's happier on the business end of things now but I'm glad Kerry's still trying. I don't know all the exact facts and details because I missed the series but I guess Kerry had a ride for a team that did a reality show. I was told that he was the best of all the driver's that got put in the car. I guess the team and car itself weren't that great though. My guess is that Jr. is the big name only because 1. he's Dale Jr. 2. he's got the looks and 3. he had nothing better to do. Kelly and Kerry both had families and responsibilities. Now that Kerry's kids are older, he'll have more time and hopefully more opportunities. Jr. didn't have to work nearly as hard as his father for anything. Kerry on the other hand is the one that will be more deserving of a big break. When he gets it I think Jr's days of being "the one to carry on the family tradition" will be over. I like Jr BECAUSE he's an Earnhardt, but I'll be cheering for Kerry because I think he could be good.

As far as the comments Teresa has made I don't think it was his driving ABILITIES she was referring to. Jr has missed appearances and interviews and driven half @ssed at practices and qualifying and probably even a few races because of his partying ways and because he's too busy with the playboy lifestyle to put racing first. An interview with say MTV is "way cooler" than a NASCAR one and sleeping off a hang over from the last nights Club E party is more important than practice or whatever. That's what she meant by him needing to choose. He can't be out there partying and looking "cool" while neglecting his responsibilities to his team AND sponsors.
As for Kerry, it's just being reported that DEI has signed him and his son. Kerry as a test driver, his son in the development plan. Regardless of what Gorden or anyone else says, DEI won't "fall" if Jr leaves. It isn't Dale Earnhardt Jr. Inc. It's a strong company with or without Jr. Just because he HAS been their top driver doesn't mean he's irreplaceable.

I don't think any driver is "irreplaceable." When they come into the pits, they don't get out of the car and change the tires and fuel it up before heading out. Team chemistry is so important. Actually, when they put Dale's in-car on TV, he usually doesn't have as much input on how to fix the car as, say, a Martin or Newman or Kenseth. He could learn, but he'd have to quite throwing back so many Buds.

Oh sorry, I got distracted and didn't finish my thought so it didn't sound quite the way I meant it. I was trying to say that Jr isn't carrying DEI. The team as a whole has the finances, experience and knowledge to go on and be sucessful even if he were to leave. Yes it is very much about chemistry, just as we saw when he and Michael switched crews for awhile. But with work DEI could find another driver that was compatable with all of them. They won't cease to exist without Jr. There are all sorts of theories as to why Jr doesn't have more input. I personally agree with yours. It's not like he doesn't have the knowledge, he just chooses not to be bothered with it.

I can see this going both ways. I don't think he's done enough in his career to earn ownership, he's an OK driver, he has huge fame because of his dad. If he wasn't an Earnhardt I don't think he'd be such a star.
If he wanted to leave he'd have other teams to go to because of his fame. If I was Teresa it would be hard to say I didn't want my stepson to be in the company that his father built, but would it be worth the hassle? I can't stand him so it would be easy for me to say get rid of him!! But it can't just be a business decision, there's some emotions that come into the decision which makes it more unpredictable, but they've been fighting for quite some time... it's just hard to say.

I just wonder what makes Dale more deserving than his sisters and brother. Also, I often wonder, what if Dale had given Kerry the same privileges? Couldn't he have done just as much with that much money behind him?

I have to say I really think that it should be spilt between all of the family, if they want it. I think they all have some right to claim part of DEI

Maybe his stepmom should not have questioned his desire to be a race car driver in one of her rare appearances in the media as she put it he had to choose between being a driver or a t.v. personality. Well anymore they go hand in hand unless of course you don't need sponsorship for your teams. Well Jr. is a heck of a driver and he's brought a lot of business to DEI. As Jeff Gordon said the other day if Jr. leaves DEI falls.
