What is the best?
I installed a Mandriva Linux distro and it support only rpm packages.
What about deb packages?
Is there any software to convert deb in rpm packages?

I prefer debian because of the apt-get program thats really helps me a lot with all that dependency stuff. One of the things I most hated about slackware and some other distros i used was trying to install some program, and find it out that it need some other thing, and then another thing, etc...

I mostly use rpm packages. I also use very rarely a DSL distribution that supports debian packages. Debian packages allow you to update your installation from the internet. Though, the package manager that comes with Mandriva allows you to do that too.

The deb packages are designed for installation on Debian based distributions, whereas Mandriva uses rpm (Red Hat Packaging) as the installation format.
I am uncertain whether you can convert one into the other, but I see no point in trying to do so. If a file is available as deb, then it should also be available as rpm.
