Never in a life one will be in a critical position such as taking sides. It is a delicate issues, he has to balance between the two carefully and the best thing is to make them work together, so that peace is restored in the house.

I think I would play the diplomat. I would listen to their dispute. Then I can know in my heart, who is right and who is wrong. Once they are done arguing and look to me for support, I would make sure they are both in the room at the same time when I speak. I would start with mother and tell her the good points she made and then the bad points. I would then tell the wife the same way. Maybe this would make them see they both have a point and yet, they both are not completely right. I would then ask them to talk it out peacefully and try to come to some kind of agreement. If they force me to decide who is right, I would have to go with the one that I believed to be so and suffer the wrath of the other for a while, lol.
