I was wondering if there was such a thing as an agent for a crafts person? I want to make crafts but know that I am not business savvy enough (nor do I want to be) to sell my own crafts/sculptures. If there is such a thing as an artist's agent, how would I go about finding him/her?

I haven't heard of such a thing, although what you could o, depending on what your craft is, is get a marketing graduate from a college to do this for you. I've heard of one woman who was making cards who did this, and now her cards are in several stores and she has hired people to make the cards, she just designs them.

Oooo! Good idea. We have four very active universities in Austin and I know I could find a few marketing majors in them that might be interested.
Thanks so much for the original and unique answer.

Unless you expect to make quite a bit of money on your crafts, paying an agent is not very practical?
Have you thought about setting up an ebay store? It is a little different than an auction because your items stay online all the time. You do pay a monthly fee for the store and a commission when items sell. If the cost was prohibitive, perhaps you could find a friend who would go in with you and sell their projects, too.
They have a lot of information on the ebay site telling you how to do it and if you can do crafts, you can probably run an ebay store with no problem at all.

Thanks for the thought, but that would take away time from my crafting which is exactly what I wish to avoid. An agent takes a percent of the total sale price when negotiated properly, therefor the agent wants to work in the crafter's best interest.
I'm thinking I should perhaps check with some galleries in the area.

I don't know about finding an agent, but this is a good place to find someone who does...

They will mentor you and help you network with the right people to sell your stuff, and give you the skills and confidence to be succesful. Membership is free, but if you like, there is a gold package with lots more benefits. This site is actually designed for the small cottage business owner, and they will help you learn to market your crafts.
Don't sell yourself short. You have enough business savvy to ask the question, and you can do this.
