What does this picture say to you?

I hope this turns out so everyone can see it. It is a picture my father in law took while in Mississippi helping with Katrina cleanup. It is one of my favorites and I look at it often. On the side of the boat it says "sorry about your boat, it save 5 peoples lives." I can't even put into words what I feel when I see this, it's a mixture of sadness, hope and optimism. What do you think?
