Whatever else you do, take it to a gunsmith and get it checked out before you shoot it. A good gunsmith will take it apart and check it out completely, before telling you whether or not it is safe to fire. Trust your gunsmith. Do you have a firing range nearby? If you do, that may be a good place to start finding a good gunsmith. I sure would like to see this rifle. Can you get a picture on your page, here? Good luck.
