"The missing children's hotline should be available by summer The EU will set up a single hotline for parents to report missing children. Calls to the new phone number - 116000 - will be free of charge and it is expected to be launched by summer. Several of the EU's 27 member states already have their own missing children hotlines, but this is the first attempt to set up a common phone number. At least 120,000 !!!!!!!!!!! children are known to live outside their home country without supervision in the EU, according to a European children's organisation. On call The European Network of Ombudspersons for Children (ENOC) says this figure only includes children known about by the authorities. The hotline may be run by private organisations in each country. The EU says it will also consider launching other common social services hotlines starting with the first three digits 116. "I am delighted that today the first major step towards a single EU hotline number for missing children has been taken," EU Telecom Commissioner Viviane Reding said. "I urge member states to act now to make this a reality, so that Europe's parents will soon know that they are able to call this number and get immediate help." The EU already has a common emergency number - 112 - which was set up in 1991. But earlier this month some MEPs said that more than two-thirds of Europeans were unaware of its existence. " I copied from BBC NEWS There is a hotline in HUngary for missing children but the number is not so simple. I did not supposed that 120 000 children live outhere home. It is a huge number. This number is shocking. I do not dare to imagine how they live.

Wow that is a large number. I am like you. I wonder how they live. We issue something called an Amber Alert here too when a child is missing. They run their picture across the news stations and computer.

that is a very high number for missing children, i am glad they started to do something more about it world wide, but there is one thing that i am suprise that they havent started to use is "GPS" gps is postion location system, it can located anything 5 feet around the item because it has a singla that got pick up by the satlies most cell phone has it, so if you lost the cell you can call in from a different phone and it will tell you where you lost it, i am suprise they havent use that techolgoy with childern, you know get them a braclet or something they can carry so if they are missing, it can located the children any where and know what is 5 feet around them is like too.

The most lost children do not have cell phone. This bracelet you suggest is aggainst human private rights. It is not allowed in democracy. On the other hand the bigger part of lost children escape from home because of something, so they do not want to be found. Often they do not notice that they are in too big trouble, till they get hurted by rude adults. This is very sad. Thanks for the comment. I have to find my way to help the children who need a help.
