How to protect yourself from identity theft

I was just wanting to know all of the ways that you can protect yourself from identity theft. I know that it is becoming more common. I don't know the statists behind this but I know that is must be a lot with all of the different things you can purchase to protect you.

I know only three ways to protect the ID.
1. Do not give the mail ID to strangers
2. Block the Pop ups.
3. Dont get your body tattoed.
In this small world, why you want you keep your ID,as a secret.
