craftign with found items is a great way to be recyle and be creative. I found item can be anything you have on hand, that you can turn into something else. Bottles, cans and even altoid tins are thing things to re-use.
For example, I love making tin can lanterns.
Tin Can Lanters:
Materials:
Empty soup or coffee can (clean)
Awl
Hammer
spraypaint, if desired.
Take an empty soup or coffee can. Remove the label.
Fill can with water and put in the freezer, let the ice set up nice and soild.
Now, (and be careful) take the can and set it on it's side. Use a towel to help hold it stable. Using the awl and the hammer, bang holes in the can (making a design can be fun-but randon holes look great too). When you have the desired amount of holes, let the ice melt. Viola! A lantern! If you want you can paint the outside of the can. Place a votive candle inside and enjoy!
Note: these are great for housing small citronella candles in the summertime)
What are some of your favorite "found item" crafts?

Our grade school has parents save "junk" they'd normally throw away for a few weeks. Then the kids have to make something out of all of it. They call it "The Invention Convention" and the kids love that day. This sounds like a great craft. The price is right too!

It is a great craft. They also look really pretty at night or in the dark. Also I feel like it's a safer way to burn candles, the tin can providing more protection.
Places like Goodwill or Salvation Army (or any other thrift shop) are great places to find stuff for crafting. I've found many plain glass vases for super cheap that I can decorate with decopague, or other embelishments.

Yeah, my goal is to make some horrendously popular craft out of no cost garbage, lol. Then the price of whatever I was using would suddenly go up, lol.

I like to use altoids tins for crafts. I just think they are so cute. I like to decoupage stuff onto them, and then use them to hold mini magnets as gifts.

I love using altoid tins. They are just so handy and a perfect reusalble little tin. Putting magnets in them is a great idea!

I like to use old Body Butter containers from the body shop to craft with. I will wash it out really well and then glue a whole bunch of pretty things to it. Then I can use the container to hold small things that I might lose easily like hair clips and safety pins.

I love using old Body Butter containers! I have one that I painted the top with chalkboard paint, so I can label it with whatever is in there at the time. Right now it's serving as a mini first aid kit. The screw on top of these containers make them super secure, and the thick plastic is really durable.

I love resuing packaging. You are right, there are so many neat mesh nettings, or pretty papers and ribbons used in holiday gifts.
