teeth - what will i do? any dentists here?

My youngest child, 6 years old is suffering from toothache due to cavities. this has been going on for 2 weeks now. he wakes up at night complaining, although i give him mefenamic acid before going to sleep. the dentist says just wait for the pulp to be destroyed and wait for the nerve to die. In the meantime, what will I do?

Have him swish peroide in his mouth, but do not swallow! Do this often duringh the day, it will help kill the infection.
