Some years ago, we were given an old set of silverware. I had not been married very long and did not realize that silverware could be cleaned to look like new again. It was tarnished really bad and I really did not want it. I dont like the feel of real silverware on my teeth. I dont know why but I dont. I gave them away. A few months later, I was at my friend home and she was setting the table. Her silver ware looks so sparkly. I commented on how good it looked and she smiled and said "You dont reconize them do you?" I was shocked. It could not be the same silverware that I had given her. She assured me that it was indeed the same silverware. I ask her how she did it and this is what she told me.
"Select a pot large enough to hold your biggest item of silverware. Fill with enough water to cover your largest item to be cleaned. Bring to a rolling boil. Lightly crumple a good sized piece of aluminum foil and place in the pot, add a sprinkling of baking soda. Submerge the silverware into the boiling pot. Be sure to have some tongs available so that you can easily remove the pieces of silver when it looks clean. This will only take a minute or so. Remove and place in hot soapy water, rinse well and towel well to remove all water spots. Your silverware should be sparkling clean without the fuss and mess and elbow grease!"

Yes it does work on stainless steel jewelry.
Just be sure that it is not stainless stell coated. I am not sure how it works on that.

Wow anne, I am amazed. I don't own any silverware. But, my daughter and I both have some pieces of jewelry that are silver and very tarnished. I wonder if this method would work for the sivler jewelry pieces? Does the type of pot matter (aluminum, stainless steel, glass?) I would love to try this on my silver jewelry!

I've never heard of that but yeah, knowing basic chemistry I see how that could work.Practical and beautifly simple.I don't have any silverware but I do have a pure silver collar that needs some cleaning..

thanks for the idea. I have a few pieces that need to be cleaned but never wanted to use the harsh cleaners. I will have to try this and see if it cleans it up.
