My daughter has been diagnosed with ADD and CAPD (centeral auditory processing disorder). She struggles so much in school. The teachers are now telling me that if she doesn't get the help she needs she will not graduate from elementary school. Any ideas on how to help her? she has a hard time reading and comprehending what is read and said. Please HELP!

well i dont really know anything about CAPD, though i can go on and on about ADD. with ADD if the subject at hand is just not 'interesting' to the person it pretty much goes in one ear and right back out the other! reading things which are uninteresting can be a real hassle! i cant read books because of my ADD.. ill read and read and read and be on the 2nd or 3rd chapter of the book before i realize my mind was wandering and i have no clue what i just read! i suggest finding fun and interesting ways to teach her, which they may not be doing in school. id talk to her teachers about what they are learing in class and then teach her in fun and interesting ways at home. i know that may end up being a lot of work on your end, but it should really help alot! also if you put her on a simple diet the down sides of the ADD should lessen alot! giving her better focus and attention span. all u need to do for that is make sure the first thing she eats in the mornings is sugar less, or only natural sugars from fruit or the like. then avoid foods with red or blue dyes (they are the worst things for anyone with ADD), and at night time the last thing she should eat should have protein in it. the protein will help her get more restful sleep as many people with ADD suffer from insomnia due to the constant mind chatter keeping them awake. best of luck to you and your daughter!

thank you for the advise. It's ver hard to control her diet when she is at her dad's house. I can tell him till i'm blus in the face but she still gets candy, sodas, and all kind of sugary stuff. CAPD is a hearing problem. it's like somone speaking chinese to you. You can hear it but you can't understand a word they said. That is what is is dealing with on top of not being able to focus. She can not understand simple instructions and relys on copying what her peers are doing in order to figure it out. The only problem is. .sometimes they aren't doing it right either. She often looks to me to answer questions that were directed at her becaus she didn't understand them.

wow sounds really harsh! i had a time period where i couldnt understand a thing anyone said to me as well, for me it was brought on by stress, so i can relate to your daughter and i truely feel for her as well as you! anyways though if u can at least do the diet while she is not at her fathers, it will help.
