I have a few questions as far as Apple Trees. I live in Minnesota USA. Last spring I planted a Honeycrisp Apple tree & a Haralred Apple tree. Now I was told I wouldn't get apples the firsy year. I got 5 apples from the Honeycrisp but not even one bloom on the Haralred. Does anyone know why this happened? Do I need more than the 2 apple trees for them to be pollinated seeing I got apples once already? Also when is the best time to prune them & how is the best way to do so? Any & all responses greatly appreciated. The picture attached is of my Haralred. As you can tell it is a very recent picture. HAHAHA!!! Happy postings from Grandpa Bob.

I have 2 apple trees. One is very large and has a lot of apples every year. The other, a different species, hasn't grown much, and has never had fruit. As I live in Auasralia, I can't comment on youyr type of apple trees. Howver, I do remeber being told by the nursery, that although they need pollination by the correct type of tree, it need not be in your yard. If there is one in your area suitable to polinate yours, then that should do the trick. I would think that one year is fairly soon to get apples.

Yup. The nursery said I wouldn't get apples that year but lo and behold. The tree was only about 3 feet tall also when they bloomed into apples. Thanks. I've heard that a crabapple tree is the best to plant for aid in pollination. Thanks for the response also.
