Sugars

What kind of sugar is table sugar? Fructose, sucrose, dextrose? What is taken out of sugar to take it from "sugar in the raw" to "table sugar"? Does it only come from sugar cane still or is there a process to get it from other plants as well? Since cellulose is in all plants, shouldn't they all be somewhat sweet? What is in Splenda anyway?

I'm surprised no one has answered this yet. I don't have a great answer but I know that glucose and sucrose are two different kinds of sugars. Cellulose is technically a sugar but it is more like a building block for the cell walls. I'm not sure what kind of sugar is in sugar in the raw but most likely it comes from sugar cane. Hopefully someone with more background in cooking and/or science will respond.
