It depends on the kind of trouble and how long it has been going on for.
Quite often even if you try to help, if they don't want help there is nothing you can do. Without knowing more about the situation there is probably little pertinent that anyone can say. All I can say is that it is important to be there for them, try to make them feel that you care about them and address whatever the lack of confidence issue is.

I would try to talk to them and let them know that I support them and that they can talk to me about everything. I would try to help them in any way that I possibly could and listen to whatever they had to say. If they needed a hug, I would give that to them as well. I would try and give them words of encouragement and give them compliments about all the good things I like about him or her.

Hi Joy, Thank you for the kind words and thoughts as I try and help my friends in any way that I can. I feel the same way about you as well and am sure you would help your good friends as well since I know you have a big heart too. :-)
