Are there too many charities/charitable events?

Don't get me wrong, there are a number of charities that I support, but it seems that every time you turn around there is an organisation asking for money, for a variety of good causes.
During the year there are so many days or weeks relating to different situations or condtions
e.g. daffodil day for cancer,
pink ribbon week for breast cancer
red nose day for sids
shave your hair day for cancer research
starlight day for the starlight foundation
the red shield appeal for the salvation army
red cross appeal week
jeans for genes day
And that is only a few, there are many many more. There are also many who don't have specific times they are fund raising all the time (not that there is anything wrong with that) It seems that there is always one or more appeals happening. Then when you donate to one even once they keep sending you letters for more money.
We don't have a lot of money so I give what I can when I can, but compared to even 10 years ago there seem to be so many more organisations that want money on a regular basis.

You're so generous to donate to such organizations and I appreciate that. We established a foundation for senior citizens, widows, orphans, disabled, poor intellectuals, etc. but we have not received any cent from anybody and that's why the foundation is not yet operational until now because of lack of money. Office maintenance alone is expensive and so people involved are always asking for money but they should ask those who really have and not squeeze those who barely have.

I was just talking to someone last night about this. There must be a list that some charities share, because it does seem like if we donate to one we start getting letters from others. It would be difficult if not impossible to give to all the ones that are worthy, but I think if we each give what we can to the ones that are most important to us, there's no need to feel bad about not giving to the others.

Some organizations are not ligitimate. However, the ones that are keep asking for money because there is still a need. I don't know if this is a problem for you because you feel guilty that you can not give more, but I am glad that there are people out there that care enough to raise money for those less fortunate than them.
There is not a whole lot of good left in this world, so more giving is needed. If you recieve a notice and you are not able to give, don't feel bad about it, just give when you can. I love to give when I am able to, but when I am not, I am okay with that. The more you give, the more you will get to give.
